NZE, sold under its Energy and Focus lines, lists 50 milligrams of caffeine per pouch in its Energy formula, roughly equivalent to half a cup of drip coffee, according to the brand's own published ingredient panel.1 The pouch also contains alpha-GPC, L-theanine, and L-tyrosine, along with sucralose as a sweetener and sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate as pH adjusters to speed absorption through the cheek.1 A separate caffeine-free "Focus" version of the product drops the caffeine while retaining the same nootropic blend.

Ultra markets its Focus Pouches as both nicotine-free and caffeine-free.2 According to the company's own product documentation, each pouch instead delivers 100 milligrams of enfinity® paraxanthine, a compound the human body produces naturally as it metabolizes caffeine, alongside alpha-GPC, L-theanine, panax ginseng, and B vitamins.2 Roughly 84 percent of ingested caffeine converts to paraxanthine in the liver via the CYP1A2 enzyme, so the compound is closely related to caffeine even though it isn't caffeine itself.2

Flow, a breakthrough Texas-based company whose pouches have been used by more than 103,000 people to date, lists zero nicotine and zero caffeine. In place of a stimulant, its formula contains 100% organic fruiting body Lion's Mane, Cordyceps, and Reishi, combined with TeaCrine® and methylcobalamin vitamin B12.

Are These Brands Just Swapping Stimulants, Or Actually Doing Something New and Meaningful?

NZE's Energy line replaces nicotine with caffeine directly. Ultra replaces it with paraxanthine, caffeine's primary liver metabolite, which is not caffeine itself but shares its mechanism closely enough that the two are frequently studied together.2 Both are legitimate ingredients with their own research bases. Neither one, however, removes stimulant activity from the pouch. It relocates it.
